Research & Policy

The Neighborhood Parks Council conducts research into the conditions of San Francisco’s urban parks and their relationships with surrounding communities in order to improve the city’s parks and  playgrounds.

RPD Commission Hearings and Task Forces
NPC attends RPD Commission Hearings, testifying on important park issues. An NPC staff member is also an active member of park related task forces and work groups. A partial list of task forces that NPC has participated includes: the Mayor’s Open Space 2100 Task Force, the Restroom Task Force, the Community Opportunity Fund Task Force, and the Synthetic Playfields Task Force.

Annual Meeting with the Mayor
Each year NPC convenes park stakeholders and meets with the Mayor and his staff to discuss the past year’s progress and lay out a shared roadmap for the year ahead. This event is an opportunity for park advocates to hold the City accountable for park performance, and keep parks on the civic radar.
