We are deeply troubled by the continued vandalism of our precious park resources. As such, we are restating our commitment to a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and successful conviction of the person(s) responsible.

The reward has generously been offered by the San Francisco Parks Trust and the Friends of the Urban Forest.

On Thursday, August 19, Recreation and Park Department staff discovered three rose beds and a total of 36 rose bushes had been vandalized at the Rose Garden in Golden Gate Park. The bushes had been severely pruned, some to just a few inches high. The extent of the damage is still being determined.

On July 22, Recreation and Park Department staff discovered 16 trees in and around the Music Concourse in Golden Gate Park that were sawed off near their bases, effectively killing the trees. This incident was the latest in a handful of similar tree killings in city parks. In all, 44 trees in Golden Gate Park and Lincoln Park have been destroyed since the middle of May, most of them young, recently planted trees.
