In loving memory, the park purist – Jeanne Alexander

NPC’s board of directors and staff would like to take a moment to remember Jeanne Alexander, one of NPC’s oldest volunteers.

Jeanne volunteered with the Neighborhood Parks Council for nearly a decade. Her knowledge and ability to help readers visualize the history of our city’s parks was one of a kind. Having written nearly 100 park historic profiles, her astuteness and storytelling skills will always be remembered in NPC’s archives.

California-born and Cal alum, Jeanne’s career as an editor/writer was innate. Working in New York and San Francisco, Jeanne worked at KQED, WNET and other publishing companies. She also was a part of Project Open Hand and Fresh Start Farms.

In addition, Jeanne wrote for Noe Valley Voice, worked with for Meals That Heal and synthesized views for the Recreation and Park Department’s 2003 Strategic Plan.
