Dolores Park Playground’s Construction Begins

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

The Friends of Dolores Park Playground in partnership with the Neighborhood Parks Council and the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, are very pleased to announce that on April 21, 2011 the Recreation and Parks Commission awarded Bauman Landscape & Construction the contract to renovate the playground in Mission Dolores Park.

“This is a very exciting milestone, which means we are on the brink of realizing our  goal of creating a world-class playground at Dolores Park”, said Nancy  Gonzalez Madynski, Chair of the Friends of Dolores Park Playground.  The design for the new playground was developed with extensive input from the community.  The playground will have several unique and exciting features, including: a central play mound, that will have an ADA accessible suspension bridge, built-in slide and climbing nets; a custom-made ship wrecked boat; and a 36’ super slide built into the hillside behind the playground.

The new playground will be named the Helen Diller Playground at Dolores Park in recognition of $1.5 million donation to the project from the Mercer Fund, a donor-advised fund of the San Francisco Jewish Community Federation.  Mrs. Diller and her family are long-time residents of the San Francisco Bay Area who are committed to the advancement of the education, science and the arts. “We had a couple of overarching goals – first, to create a truly unique, artisan playground and second, to help keep families living in and enjoying San Francisco”, said Jackie Safier, Helen Diller’s daughter.

We are thrilled to announce that on June 8th, 2011 we broke ground. Completion of the new Helen Diller Playground at Dolores Park is projected for next Spring. The estimated completion date is February 2012.  During construction, the playground will not be open for public use, but the rest of the park will be unaffected.

Friday, April 29th, 2011

Thanks to you, Dolores Park Works (one of our fiscal sponsors) had a successful Earth Day celebration! Here is what they have to say:

We had almost 50 volunteers hit the park with racks, shovels and brooms. Concentrating on the big lawns, in two hours we gathered up a small heap cialis coupon offers of the little bits of the junk that can ruin our beautiful Dolores. Mountain Lake Playground Party 2011

Friday, April 29th, 2011

On May 1st, one of our amazing fiscal sponsors, Friends of Mountain Lake Playground (FMLP), threw a successful community event!  The purpose of this event was to learn more about the renovation project, meet neighbors, and to get involved in the playground renovation project.  On top of that, light refreshments, music, face painting, and a raffle were all activities the 100-200 people who attended got to enjoy.  FMLP was able to raise about $2000 through the raffle and donations.  This is great news because FMLP’s $1000 matching grant turns out to about $3000!  The great turnout of this event is just the beginning of plenty more to come.

Help McLaren Park is a volunteer community organization which operates under the auspices of the Neighborhood Parks Council (NPC). The group has been working to improve the Gambier St Plaza at Gambier and Burrows for the last two years.

They would like to turn this abandoned play area and worn park entrance into an inviting and warm destination for neighbors, parents, kids, dog walkers and visitors alike. Help McLaren Park envisions a flat surface (possibly decomposed granite) with benches all around, plants and decorations, a unique center piece in the middle and an informational kiosk.
