Dogs Love Franklin Park

Monday, February 14th, 2011

Dear Franklin Park,

I just moved to your neighborhood. Thank you for being . I am used to big parks like Alamo Square, but since I am just a little dog, your size is just right for my morning run It a wonderful pleasant patch of green.
You have trees, grass, a walkway and children – all my favorite things!

Sometimes I come here with my friends, or just make new ones when I am there. I ‘watch over’ my other little friends at Family Dog Rescue at Alabama and 16th and you really make our day when we can all come and go for a group walk in your fresh grass, pee on the big trees (heehee) and smell the flowers. We always have some one pick up after us so our park stays clean!

I am glad you are are here and the friendly park people keep you safe and clean for me and my other friends.

First Love: Skateboarding

Monday, February 7th, 2011

Dear Marchbanks Park,

I have lived next to you since I was born.  Even when my family moved to a new house in middle school, you were still in my neighborhood.  Out of all the parks I would write a love letter too, you are definitely my first choice because your presence has given me a setting to express the several hobbies I have acquired from childhood to adulthood.  Most of all, you were the only place I could go to to skateboard without getting hassled by anyone.  This is where I learned the basic foundation of skateboarding tricks.

During my high school years without a license, you also provided a spot for me to bring my dates to after watching a movie at the nearby Century Theaters, I enjoyed that.  On top of that, even when my friends and I stopped skating as much as we used to, you were still the connecting point between my friends and I where we could meet up and decide what to do for the rest of the day.

I first started to use the park heavily in 6th grade.  Now, I am a college graduate and use your bottom level to play baseball with my friends.  Marchbanks, thank you for being “the spot” for my friends and I to hang.  I can only hope that you will still be there for my future little kiddos to learn how to ollie and bring their dates.
